This article was originally published in Volume 5 (1985) of the Rock Island Digest, the annual historical journal of the Rock Island Technical Society (RITS). Due to a series of insurmountable problems of which most members are painfully aware, RITS ceased to exist for all practical purposes in 2013. As the author of the original article, and because the original journal is long since out of print, I am reposting the information on the Arkansas Railroad History website as a reference source for anyone with an interest in the late, great Rock Island.
